The EMMAUS VOCATION JOURNEY
If you ponder the question in your heart...Am I being called to the priesthood?, then this group is for you. It provides an opportunity to find space to ponder further this question. Through prayer, reflection and discussion in the presence of facilitators and others who are discerning the same question you have a chance to delve further into the mystery of your calling.
This 4 session Discernment course is run under the patronage of St. John Marie Vianney, patron of priests.
The discernment course takes place over three Saturdays ;in October, November and December and one weekend from in February. The meetings take place in Dublin city centre and the weekend in St Patricks Maynooth.
Each session will begin at 11am and run til about 2.30pm. We will begin with prayer using the scriptures followed by input on the theme of the day.
The weekend away in Maynooth will provide participants with an opportunity to have some space to discern their unique vocation and through discussion, prayer and input have an opportunity to find clarity on their own call. The weekend takes place in February

Lectio Divina prayer,
Input by speakers,
followed by Mass
and finish with lunch
at about 2.30pm.

Saturday 1st October 2011What is a vocation? This introductory session takes a look at the theme of Vocation. What is a Vocation? How does God relate to me? How does he draw me to himself? How do I discover, in this relationship, who he wants me to be, and what he wants me to do? How do I recognise that I am being called by God? Speaker: Fr Stan Mellet C.ss.R.
Saturday 5th November 2011Prayer and Vocation. This second session looks at the importance of prayer in the process of discerning a vocation to priesthood. What form should our prayer take? Where/how do we begin praying? God speaks to us in prayer...how can we listen to His voice? Speaker: Fr Brendan Comerford S.J.
Saturday 10th December 2011Vocation Stories. During this session two diocesan priests share their stories of how they realised they were being called to priesthood and what life has been like since they had the courage to say 'yes' and answer God's call. It will be an opportunity to ask questions relating to all aspects of diocesan priesthood and hear what it is like being a priest in the Dublin of Today. Speaker: Fr Paddy Glesson.
Fri 20th to 22nd January 2012Maynooth Weekend. This weekend is an introduction to the seminary in Maynooth. It provides an opportunity to glimpse what seminary life is like, meet seminarians and hear what day to day life is like for those who are studying for the priesthood. We will join the seminarians for meals and most importantly for prayer. Some Dublin seminarians will tell their vocation story.
Saturday 18th February 2012Concluding session. This session asks the question where do we go from here? What does the future hold? It is a drawing together of all that has been heard and reflected upon over the course of the sessions and an opportunity to reflect on the importance of priesthood for the church today. There is no cost involved in undertaking this course.
